2020-21 Hagler Fellow

Shaul Mukamel

Distinguished Professor Department of Chemistry University of California, Irvine

Mukamel is a theoretical chemical physicist who studies molecules by measuring their response to short pulses of light. He pioneered the field of coherent ultrafast multidimensional molecular spectroscopy. Mukamel is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and is a fellow of the Optical Society of America and the American Physical Society. Honors include the William F. Meggers Award, Optical Society of America; the Ahmed Zewail ACS Award in Ultrafast Science and Technology, American Chemical Society; the Mulliken Prize Medal, University of Chicago; and the Earle K. Plyler Prize for Molecular Spectroscopy and Dynamics and the Arthur L. Schawlow Prize in Laser Science, both from the American Physical Society. Mukamel will collaborate with faculty and students in the Institute for Quantum Science and Engineering.
