2020-21 Distinguished Lecturer

Jennifer A. Lewis

Hansjörg Wyss Professor of Biologically Inspired Engineering John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences Harvard University

Lewis has made pioneering contributions to the programmable assembly of soft functional, structural, and biological materials. In addition to demonstrating a new route for creating shape-morphing architectures, known as biomimetic 4D printing, she developed a multi-material 3D bioprinting method that enables the creation of thick vascularized tissues and 3D organs-on-chip. Her bioprinting research was named “one of the top 100 science stories” by Discover Magazine. Lewis is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, and the National Academy of Inventors, and a fellow of the American Physical Society. Honors include the Presidential Faculty Fellow Award, National Science Foundation; the Brunauer Award, American Ceramic Society; the Langmuir Lecture Award, American Chemical Society; and the Materials Research Society Medal. Lewis will present lectures in the College of Engineering.
